Janelle Mercer teaches and supports technology classes as well as provides frontline technology support to customers and staff.

Janelle Mercer is a Technology Trainer Librarian at the Wichita Public Library.  As a Technology Trainer Janelle teaches and supports technology classes as well as provides frontline technology support to customers and staff.  She also helps customers on the phone and in-person with reference questions and helps them find material to checkout.  She also provides free individual appointments for training and technology assistance through the library’s Book-A-Librarian service.  Some of the classes Janelle has taught at the library include:  Downloading E-Books, 3D Printing I: The Basics,  3D Printing II: Processes, Word Basics, Word Intermediate, Pinterest, and Tinkercad.  Janelle also helps manage and support the 3D Printing service at the library. 

Janelle joined the staff at the Wichita Public Library in late spring of 2020.  She previously worked at the Southwest Kansas Library System (SWKLS) in Dodge City, Kansas for a little over 14 years.  There she started out as an Assistant Technology Consultant and then was promoted to Technology Trainer.  While at SWKLS she taught various technology classes, provided hardware and software support, supported and helped build library websites, and provided social media support.  Prior to that she worked at the Finney County Public Library in Garden City, Kansas as their Computer Technician and then System Administrator.  Janelle has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas Wesleyan University in Computer Information Systems and a Master of Science Degree in Instructional Design and Technology from Emporia State University.    

Janelle also enjoys planning events and has helped plan the annual Kansas Library Association (KLA) Conference for several years serving on the conference’s programming  and main planning committees.  She also was on the proposal selection committee for the Association of Rural and Small Libraries when she worked at the Southwest Kansas Library System in 2020.
